Handmade Holidays!

Wow... it's November already...

Today is the start of the highly anticipated  Handmade Holidays over at Sew, Mama, Sew!

I'm so excited!  Today is the first day...

If you are unfamiliar with Sew, Mama, Sew's Handmade Holidays it is an online event in which you can win prizes, see free tutorials for Christmas gifts, and free recipes! Every day is a different theme... Today's is "Passion for Accessories"
This is their 5th year doing it so the past 4 years of tutorials is still on their website and worth checking out...  I've been all over it ;-)

Here are some of today's tutorials:

I AM working on it...

For those of you wondering about my apron-

I AM working on it!  Really!

I just also have a life separate from sewing and it happens to be pretty full...  ;-)

Proof:

I scrapped this idea...

My experimental pair of jeans...

I found a pillowcase that I got at the Goodwill clearance center because I liked the fabric and decided to combine it with the jeans but it's still in the works...

I get distracted easily so if you don't see photos of a finished apron 'til Christmas time, you won't be surprised!  :-)

I Need an Apron!

I've been cooking/baking since I was about nine years old- it's been roughly nine years since...  every time that I have gone to cook or bake something I put on somebody else's apron!

Today is the day that I will put an end to this "borrowing aprons" business.

I have decided to make one for myself.

(I can hear the dramatic gasps running through the crowd...)

At the moment I have a pile of jeans sitting on the island in the corner of our dining room- hopefully by the end of the day they will be an apron... :)

Now I picked out some aprons on Pinterest for us to take a look at to get some inspiration on how to design my own:

Really love the criss-cross at the top- the ruffles are a little much though...

(don't get me wrong- they are cute but for an apron?)

I love how it looks like a  dress!
I just LOVE the colors and the crisp clean look of this one...
the ruffles at the top are adorable...

I love this one- it looks so Shabby Chic  :)

Ah, well...

Photos to come of my sewing adventures today :)

A New Idea...

Ah, pleasant thoughts of bright, fresh prints, smooth fabrics, free tutorials, and what-would-i-ever-do-without-them patterns swirl through my head.

What you are seeing, my friends, is the direct result of my "fever".   My closest friends know it well... I get crazy excited about a certain project or subject, I furiously work and work and work at it- then after a little while I realize the "impracticality" of it (that I just couldn't see before) and move on to the next subject.  Yep- that's about how it goes with me... that is probably why I know how to do a little bit of pretty much everything but I can't say I'm good at any of it...  ;)

Sewing is my current passion- Etsy has inspired me...

Has anyone seen camera strap covers?  I saw a friend with one once but until I saw the ones on Etsy I wasn't too concerned about them!  Check this one out.  (Sorry- I don't want to infringe on any copyrights- that's why I didn't put the photo on here)  Isn't that ADORABLE?  Did you see the PRICE?  Do you know how much I can make that for?

So I got looking around- I wanted to figure it out myself but then I figured I'd check it anybody already had a tutorial out there... sure enough...

Here are three tutorials on how to make camera strap covers:

If you love photography and you love to "accessorize" (like me ;) )  then you need to make one of these (like me)!

Anyway... that's what's been going on inside my brain recently...

:)
